Designing with Time,
Presence,
and Nature
SLOWING DOWN
•
At Experience Aika, we care deeply about time.
Time lives in the grain of wood.
In the space between moss and trees.
In the quiet histories of lakes and stones.
Time + Awareness = Presence
•
In a world of screens, speed, and endless distraction, we design immersive installations, events, rituals, and gatherings that slow us down and reconnect us with our senses, inviting presence.
OFFERINGS
•
Our goal is to dissolve the illusion of separation between humans and the land; an illusion at the heart of the ecological crisis.
We create experiences that invite ecological awareness not through information, but through sensory engagement and wonder; spaces where other beings (forests, rivers, even entire ecologies) can speak.
Immersive Experiences
Site specific narratives that combine architecture, performance, gamification, and ritual. These experiences invite transformation through interaction and play.
The Living Castle: A site specific installation
Step inside a medieval castle reimagined as a living ecosystem. Through sound, light, scent, and interactive storytelling, visitors encounter rooms inspired by local wildlife, each revealing how human history and the natural world have always been intertwined.
Retreats
Immersive resets for individuals and teams. Through rest, reflection, and shared experience, participants regain focus, creativity, and a renewed sense of connection.
Fire & Ice: a Finnish Sauna Retreat
Experience Finland’s elemental ritual through cycles of heat, cold, rest, and reflection. A sensory retreat that restores balance, calms the nervous system, and reconnects people to presence, resilience, and nature.
Interactive Rituals
Sensor-based encounters where movement, nature, and technology converge. Imagine a cave-like space that glows when sung to; or a forest that comes to life with each step.
Yöääni | NightSong
An interactive night forest installation inspired by Finland’s rich biodiversity. Motion-activated sounds, scents, and visuals create a living chorus, celebrating our connection to the more-than-human world.
Workshops
Hands on activities where nature is both teacher and collaborator, where the landscape is part of the studio. Participants learn how to reconnect art, ecology, and storytelling.
Nature as a Studio: Art, Ecology, and Immersion
Explore the living world as a studio for listening, collaboration, and creation. Through sensory practices and studies of pioneering eco-artists, participants learn to co-create with nature itself.
The World is a Library: Art, Ecology, and Storytelling
Reimagine the planet as a vast living library. Through art, ecology, and shared stories, participants explore biodiversity alongside creative ways to protect and celebrate the world’s many life forms and processes.
Multisensory Storytelling
Stories where visuals are not primary — where you can touch, smell, hear, and feel. Narratives that live in spaces, not on screens or inside headsets.
Ecological Soundwalk in Šumava
Join artists Dan Vlček and Mika Johnson for a winter soundwalk exploring how forests listen and speak. Through deep listening and field recording techniques, we connect to wind, water, trees, and more.
COLLABORATIONS
We work with those seeking experiences that generate presence, meaning, and ecological awareness.
• Brands and organizations cultivating mindfulness, well-being, and inner purpose
• Cultural institutions drawn to cultural heritage and ecological storytelling
• Companies and communities creating intentional spaces for reflection and renewal.
Let’s create something meaningful together.
ABOUT US
Founded in 2025 by two longtime friends — one Finnish, one Finnish-American — Experience Aika was born from a shared question:
Can meaningful experiences help us slow down, reconnect, and live more in tune with the world around us?
JUKKA KARHULA, founder of Frame Rate Ltd., brought years of experience in media, marketing, and event creation.
MIKA JOHNSON, a multimedia artist and somatic therapist, brought a background in filmmaking, immersive storytelling, meditation, and ritual practice.
Together, we imagined a different kind of studio, one rooted in the everyday experiences that matter most to us:
Walking through a forest
Listening to birdsong
Picking mushrooms
Sitting in the sauna
Swimming in a lake
Cooking local food
Making and enjoying art
Living simply and intentionally
And staying connected to ourselves, our families, our communities, and the land.
Experience Aika is the result:
A practice devoted to slowing down time; to authoring experiences that reconnect body and land.
To designing with care: for people, place, and the future we want to live in.
